New Jersey Senator Indicted on Bribery Charges
Charges Include Cash and Gold Bars
Senator Robert Menendez and his wife, Nadine Arslanian, were indicted on charges of bribery in September 2023.
Prosecutors allege that the Menendezes accepted cash and gold bars in exchange for political favors. The indictment alleges that the bribes were paid by a Florida eye doctor, Salomon Melgen. Melgen is also charged in the case.
The Menendezes have pleaded not guilty to the charges. They are scheduled to go on trial in September 2024.
If convicted, the Menendezes could face up to 20 years in prison.
