Early Life and Education

Kamala Devi Harris was born on October 20, 1964, in Oakland, California. Her mother, Shyamala Gopalan, was an Indian-born breast cancer researcher, and her father, Donald Harris, was a Jamaican-born economics professor. Harris attended Howard University, where she graduated with a degree in political science and economics. She then went on to earn a law degree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law.

Political Career

Harris began her political career as a deputy district attorney in Alameda County, California. In 2004, she was elected as the district attorney of San Francisco, where she served for two terms. In 2010, she was elected as the Attorney General of California, becoming the first woman and the first African-American to hold the position. As Attorney General, Harris focused on reforming the criminal justice system and protecting consumers.

Vice Presidency

In 2020, Harris was elected as the Vice President of the United States, becoming the first woman, the first African-American, and the first Asian-American to hold the position. As Vice President, Harris has been a close advisor to President Joe Biden and has played a key role in shaping the administration's policies.
