Bluejays Hold Fighting Irish to Lowest Score of Season
Creighton Defeats Notre Dame 63-55
In a hard-fought defensive battle, the Creighton Bluejays defeated the Notre Dame Fighting Irish 63-55 in their home opener on Tuesday night at the CHI Health Center Omaha.
The Bluejays held the Fighting Irish to just 36.7% shooting from the field and forced 14 turnovers.
Creighton was led by senior guard Marcus Zegarowski, who scored 16 points and dished out six assists.
Senior forward Christian Bishop added 14 points and 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the season.
The Bluejays improved to 2-0 on the season, while the Fighting Irish fell to 1-1.
Defensive Dominance
The Bluejays' defense was the key to their victory on Tuesday night.
They held Notre Dame to just 20 points in the first half and forced the Fighting Irish into 10 turnovers.
Creighton also held Notre Dame's leading scorer, Nate Laszewski, to just 1-of-11 shooting from the field.
Offensive Struggles
The Bluejays struggled to score at times on Tuesday night, shooting just 40.7% from the field.
They also made just 5-of-20 from three-point range.
However, Creighton was able to make up for their offensive struggles with their defense.
Looking Ahead
The Bluejays will return to action on Friday night when they host the South Dakota State Jackrabbits at the CHI Health Center Omaha.
The Fighting Irish will look to bounce back on Saturday night when they host the St. Francis (PA) Red Flash at the Purcell Pavilion.
