HPD Investigating, Violent Crime Trending Downward in Houston

Houston, Texas - Houston police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred on Sunday, June 11th, 2023, involving a vehicle colliding with a Metro bus stop. The incident resulted in the death of one person and injuries to another.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 4:46 AM CDT at a bus stop located on the city's north side. The vehicle, described as a black pickup truck, allegedly jumped the curb and struck the bus stop where several people were waiting for a bus.

One victim, a 45-year-old female, was pronounced dead at the scene. A second victim, a 28-year-old male, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The driver of the pickup truck fled the scene and remains at large.

Houston Police Department (HPD) officers are actively investigating the incident, analyzing evidence and interviewing witnesses. While the motive behind the crash is still under investigation, authorities do not believe it was an intentional act.

Despite this tragic incident, HPD has reported that violent crime in Houston has decreased by 12% compared to the previous year. However, property crimes have shown an increase. The department attributes the reduction in violent crime to its ongoing efforts to improve community policing and implement crime prevention strategies.
