A Single Powerball Ticket Wins the $222.6 Million Jackpot
The Drawing Resets After Single Ticket Matches All Six Numbers
A single Powerball ticket sold in New Jersey has won the $222.6 million jackpot in Monday's drawing, according to lottery officials. The winning numbers were 10, 33, 41, 47, and 56, with a Powerball of 10.
This is the second time in a month that a single ticket has won the Powerball jackpot. On January 29, a ticket sold in Pennsylvania won the $457 million jackpot.
The Powerball jackpot has now been reset to $20 million for the next drawing on Wednesday, March 8.
How to Play Powerball
Powerball is a lottery game played in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. To play, players select five numbers from 1 to 69 and one Powerball number from 1 to 26.
Tickets cost $2 each. Players can also purchase a Power Play option for an additional $1, which multiplies non-jackpot winnings by up to 10 times.
Odds of Winning
The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million. The odds of winning any prize are 1 in 24.9.
What to Do If You Win
If you win the Powerball jackpot, you will have the option of taking the prize as a lump sum or an annuity. The lump sum is paid out in one payment, while the annuity is paid out over 29 years.
If you take the lump sum, you must pay taxes on the entire amount. If you take the annuity, you will pay taxes on the amount of each payment as you receive it.
